![]() There were so many times during those years, when I wanted to give up. I did not take my first dollar home until 2016 and I started my first company in 2007, so there were nine years of grinding hard and literally spending more money than I was making. Maybe some companies are profitable from day one, but that is not at all my experience. I think this is the hardest part of starting a company. When I started Lefty Production Co., like any business for years I made negative income. If there was one person to recognize behind my success it would hands down be my adorable husband Bryan Miller. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. This family dynamic is what brings me the most joy and wakes me up in the mornings. ![]() But what I am most proud of and what allows for our clients to thrive is the amazing humans at both Lefty and Stitch Texas. Since Lefty and Stitch Texas inception we have built over a thousand brands, I am proud of that. I think our clients often feel the same way and I know lots of our employees feel this way as well. I can always teach the technical elements when they get the job, but I focus on people’s core essence and listen to my gut. I often hire someone that is not as technically savvy as another candidate simply because I was attracted to their energy, values, manners, spirit and charisma. My team does the same and together we all bring our best selves to our clients and their projects. I work really hard on my energy and try to show up for my team every single day, regardless of what is going on in my personal life. I believe in energy and the law of attraction. So much of my day is about checking in with people and making sure things are going smoothly so everyone can operate at their highest frequency. One thing I did not realize in becoming an entrepreneur was how so much of my success in what I am building is created by the people under the tent. ![]() I set out to be a fashion designer and now I really do not do anything creative except curate an incredible team. Sometimes I look at my life and I am not sure how I got here. What should our readers know about your business?īuilding Lefty Production Co. My mom always says, people plan, G-d laughs. ![]() I might have great plans and then someone wakes up with an ear ache and then those plans change. I always get the job done but I am often not in charge of my day. I am a mom of three and I also really appreciate the flexibility that owning my own company has given me. I no longer expect that I will have a weekend completely uninterrupted and once I accepted this I became a healthier entrepreneur. Having a company is woven into the fabric of my life. You are always worried about its well-being and it is always on your mind and in your heart. Once I had my first baby something clicked in me and I realized that having a company is a lot like having a baby. I used to feel hot and bothered by my life being constantly interrupted by work. I definitely do enjoy my time to relax, but I often find myself in a situation like I did this past weekend, where I am wine tasting and look down at my phone to see urgent texts about how our catalytic converter was stolen from our company truck. When you own your own business there is no clocking out. Once I reframed my mind about how I felt when work penetrated my weekend or evening I found that I became much happier and more successful. I think my feelings towards having a balanced work life have definitely changed over time. Hi Marta, how has your work-life balance changed over time? We had the good fortune of connecting with Marta Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
